The National Forum of Music is proud to present, PIANO.PL, an unprecedented musical event, featuring vocalist Dorota Miśkiewicz and Atom String Quartet, presenting a dozen prominent Polish pianists from three generations.

Dorota Miśkiewicz, violinist, jazz vocalist, composer, songwriter and arranger, was born on September 12, 1973, in Warsaw. Miśkiewicz’s father, Henryk Miśkiewicz, is a jazz saxophonist, and her brother, Michał, is a percussionist with the Tomasz Stańko Quartet. In 1994 she was runner-up at the International Jazz Vocalist Meetings, in Zamość, and later in the year, she became a member of the Włodzimierz Nahorny Sextet. Around the same time, she began recording music for theatre along with trumpeter Tomasz Stańko, working on the plays Roberto Zucco and Kaligula. In 1997, Miśkiewicz graduated from the Academy of Music in Warsaw. In 1998, violinist Nigel Kennedy invited her to perform with him in concert, and in 2002 she started collaborating with Ewa Bem, for whom she wrote lyrics, sang and arranged choral music.  Additionally, she provided vocal support to Anna Maria Jopek.

In 2002, Miśkiewicz recorded her own album, Zatrzymaj się, with the band Dorota Goes to Heaven. The band was nominated for the Fryderyk Award in the category "Jazz Album of the Year" and Dorota was nominated for the "New Hope" award by the jazz society "Melomani." In 2004, she qualified to play in the "Premieres" concert at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, and the following year she took part in recording the soundtrack for the TV series Boża podszewka. In 2006, she recorded the album Nieszpory to commemorate the first anniversary of Pope John Paul II's death and collaborated on a project with vocalist Cesaria Evora. Miśkiewicz has worked with a number of well-known musicians, including Klaus Doldinger, Janusz Strobel, Wojciech Młynarski and Krzysztof Popek. She has performed in Scotland, Sweden, Germany, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Italy, China, South Korea, Algeria, Ukraine and Lithuania.

The Atom String Quartet was established in Warsaw in 2010, all the members having graduated from Warsaw Frederic Chopin University of Music. The ensemble was founded by violinists Dawid Lubowicz and Mateusz Smoczyński, violist Michał Zaborski, and cellist Krzysztof Lenczowski. Since winning the Grand Prix of the 13th Bielska Zadymka Jazz Festival in 2011, the band has had the opportunity to perform at the greatest music festivals of the world. The ensemble has also recorded three original records, “Fade In,”  which received the Polish music award the “Fryderyk” for Jazz Debut of the Year in 2011, “Places,” which won the “Fryderyk” for Album of the Year in the category of Jazz in 2012 and “AtomSPHERE,” which received a nomination for the “Fryderyk” for Jazz Album of the Year in 2015. The Atom Quartets’ unique style combines the traditional instrumentation of a string quartet with improvisational jazz principles and inspiration from Polish folk music, various world music traditions, contemporary and classical music.
