There is every reason to expect yet another stunning album from Jakob Bro, when he releases his second ECM-album in September along with his phenomenal trio featuring Thomas Morgan and Joey Baron. No doubt that the live experiences will be equally stunning, when the trio will present the album live in the autumn.
“Spherical beautiful and melancholic soundscapes”, “a fascinating reinvention of melodicism” and “a truly outstanding, pioneering album.” These were some of the words from reviewers, when Jakob Bro’s first ECM-album Gefion was released in 2015. Well deserved the album also gave Bro a Danish Grammy Award for ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ and The Carl Prize for ‘Jazz Composer of the Year’.
Spherical it is, and it is not the first time words like these have been used about Jakob Bro and his music. From 2009-2013 Bro was the man behind the fabulous trilogy Balladeering- Time-December Song featuring jazz legends as Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell and Paul Motian. On these albums you hear the same spherical sound, which has become characteristic for Jakob Bro and his music.
Bro’s main constellation is his trio with his musical soul mate through several years, bassist Thomas Morgan and the legendary drummer Joey Baron. Baron and Morgan have enriched numerous groups with their unique playing – from Jim Hall and John Zorn to David Bowie – and over the recent years they have only intensified their interplay as members of Jakob Bro Trio.
This is a trio that very much speaks the same language and are able to interpret Jakob Bro’s melodic, open and floating compositions in a beautiful way. No doubt that they once again will enrich their audience with great live experiences on this release tour.
