‘In 80 Beats Around the World’ is a musical journey to the sources of rhythm, full of exotic sounds. The programme of the concert features works referring to traditional music from the areas of South America, Africa, the Middle and Far East and the Balkans. These references are not accidental – each of these places is an inexhaustible source of inspiration, both for composers who write for percussion instruments and for drummers themselves.
All works will be accompanied by multimedia projections. Thus we will see places that were an inspiration for composers. We will learn about the programme content contained in individual works. Traditional rhythms and melodies, passed through the filter of contemporary composing techniques and additionally supported by the richness of percussive instruments, will surprise listeners with originality and artistic potential. Among the melodic instruments will be marimba, vibraphone, xylophone and orchestral bells. The rhythms will be emphasized by membrane instruments, such as bongos, congas, hoop drums, daiko drums, darabuka, drums and tom-toms. The rhythmic music of the songs will be complemented by such percussions as cuica, waldeteufel, maracas, harpsichords, ocarin, cabas and vibraslap.
