On Sunday 8 February a pair of Mozartian cheerful quartets will be juxtaposed with two British works written centuries later. The night will open with Malcolm Arnold’s brilliant and flowing work, abundant in charming melodic ideas. The other British work is Phantasy Quartet by Benjamin Britten, written in 1932, when Britten was only 19 and already full of tonal refinement. Thanks to the rich repertoire the four outstanding Polish soloists will introduce the audience to the tonal wealth of oboe quartet, an untypical line-up and not a frequent presence on our concert stages, all the more worth our attention.
