Tadeusz Strugała was the longest presiding director of Wratislavia Cantans — his term lasted eighteen years. He enriched the festival, introducing new events combining music with other forms of art, and leading Wratislavia Cantans through difficult times in Polish history, such as Martial law of 1981 and political transformation. Fifty-year anniversary of Wratislavia is a celebration of individuals such as Tadeusz Strugała. Maestro has his own personal anniversaries this year as well — he is celebrating his 80th birthday and 60 years of work as a conductor.
Thus, the concert conducted by Tadeusz Strugała will be the best present both for maestro, and for his numerous fans in Wrocław. He will conduct the NFM Symphony Orchestra, which he led for many years when he was the director of Wrocław Philharmonic. NFM Symphony Orchestra is also celebrating this year — the occasion is seventy years of its operation. In 1968 Tadeusz Strugała, a young conductor, participated in moving the orchestra to the first post-war residence of Wrocław Philharmonic. The new building allowed for the development of Philharmonic's operation — the increase in the number of artistic and educational projects has been so significant that currently musicians and music lovers from Wrocław need a new concert hall. Such a distinguished person for the music community in Wrocław as Tadeusz Strugała could not be missed in group of the first conductors performing in the National Forum of Music.
As a highly respected musician, Strugała was a conductor and artistic director of the best orchestras in Poland: the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra (WOSPR at that time), Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra. He was awarded Ferenc Liszt International Grand Prix du Disque and received the Orfeusz award. What is more, recordings which he conducted were nominated to the Record of the Year award of the “Grammophone” magazine. He is known for his educational and social activity. He belonged to numerous associations and foundations supporting musical development and promoting Polish culture abroad, and worked in many boards of musical competitions. He currently continues his pedagogical work.
Anniversary concert under such a distinguished conductor will be a very attractive event for the enthusiasts of symphonic music. It will also be a continuation of the tradition of Wratislavia Cantans — a festival that may look into the future with confidence, as it is based on solid grounds created by such people as Maestro Strugała.
