One of the most important Polish symbols is the image of the Black Madonna an icon surrounded by a special religious cult, also having great historical significance. Similarly, the same is with the sanctuary in Jasna Góra, which, having been the destination of numerous pilgrimages for hundreds of years, is after all an extremely important place on the map of achievements in the field of art, especially musical art. In the 18th century Jasna Góra was a thriving cultural centre, which is confirmed by the collections from that time preserved in the archives of the Pauline monastery. The works of Marcin Józef Żebrowski featured on this album are the most perfect example of late Baroque European oeuvre both from the formal point of view and considering the artistry, rhetoric, sound quality and emotional charge. All these features put the composer's works on an equal footing with recognized works created at that time in other countries and testify to the highest level of Polish music of the 18th century.

In the presented recording we used in accordance with the performance practice of that period a male vocal ensemble in which the treble performs the highest voice part. This homogeneous line-up proved to be perfect due to its unique sound possibilities.

We trust that you will be delighted with the brilliant works of Marcin Józef Żebrowski and, like us, during the rehearsals and recordings, the more you know them the more you will enjoy them. We also hope that Jasna Góra will again become, as it was centuries ago, a symbol and a synonym of the highest artistic craftsmanship.
