The NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra proudly announces that conductor, violinist and composer Joseph Swensen takes over as Artistic Director from 1 September 2017

On 24 March 2017, Andrzej Kosendiak, NFM Director, held a press conference during which he announced that starting the 2017/2918 season, the Artistic Director of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra would be Joseph Swensen. Swensen was present at the conference and told us about his Norwegian-Japanese ancestry, about his conducting career as well as being active as teacher and composer.

The NFM Leopoldinum first met Joseph Swensen four years ago. With credentials from Ernst Kovacic, he came to Wrocław and guest-conducted the orchestra during one concert. The musicians hit it off with the maestro and were very happy about this collaboration.

Thus, a new era is being launched in the history of NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra. After seven years with Ernst Kovacic as Artistic Director and three years of Hartmut Rohde’s directorship, the orchestra will work with Joseph Swensen for the next three seasons. At the same time, the subsequent editions of Leo Festival will be held, directed artistically by Ernst Kovacic. The season programmes will continue to feature Hartmut Rohde, too.
