Karol Knapiński

One of the most promising Polish choral conductors of the younger generation. A versatile musician with ties to Wrocław, he studied piano, choral conducting, and symphonic conducting at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music (under Professor Grzegorz Kurzyński, Professor Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny, and Professor Mieczysław Gawroński) and at the University of Wrocław (Polish Philology). He has also studied and collaborated with universities in Tallinn, Turin, and Tbilisi.

As a conductor, he has performed with the Polish Radio Choir – Lusławice, the Hashtag Ensemble, Capella Regia Polona, the Vocal Ensemble and Orchestra of the Polish Royal Opera, and the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz. He has also collaborated with the Polish National Youth Choir. In 2025, he became director of the Vocal Ensemble of the Polish Royal Opera in Warsaw. He is a recipient of awards for choral conductors in Wrocław (2025), Poznań (2024), and Banská Bystrica (2021). He has participated in the mentoring programs Europa Chor Akademie and Akademia PRO Hashtag Ensemble. Keenly interested in new music, he has given numerous performances and premieres of works by young composers, including at the Musica Electronica Nova festival. He is also active in scholarship, publishing articles and presenting papers on 16th- and 17th-century polyphony (MedRen, Forum Muzyki Dawnej, “Kwartalnik Młodych Muzykologów”). Karol Knapiński is a co-founder of the Punctum Consort, with whom he has been successfully pursuing a mission of a new approach to early vocal music for several years.
