Organized since 2015, the Krzyżowa-Music Festival is an event where talented young instrumentalists play together with leading musicians. Four artists who met there in 2022 will now form a piano quartet and perform at the National Forum of Music, presenting two additional chamber works by two geniuses of late Romantic music: Gabriel Fauré and Johannes Brahms.
Yannick Rafalimanana, who will sit at the piano, is a regular participant of this Lower Silesian event. Having received numerous awards, he enjoys a career on an international level already. He has won numerous awards and his career has already reached the international level. Korean violinist Inmo Yang is the winner of the 12th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, held in Helsinki in 2022. Inmo's artistic reputation grows steadily, and – for several years now – his recordings have been released by the famous Deutsche Grammophon label. Viola player Carolina Errera made her debut alongside the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as early as at the age of five. In 2018, she became the winner of the prestigious VIII Yuri Bashmet International Viola Competition in Moscow. Cellist Bryan Cheng was also an extremely gifted child: he gave his first recital at the famous Carnegie Hall at the age of fourteen. This success was followed by a string of awards won at international music competitions, crowned by claiming the prestigious Ives Paternot Prize. He is considered one of the most outstanding young artists in the world of classical music today.
The two piano quartets, which will be performed together by young musicians, are among the finest chamber works composed by their authors. In the case of Gabriel Fauré's Piano Quartet No. 2, special attention should certainly be paid to the extremely beautiful third movement. According to the composer, the motifs in the piano part recreate the memories of ringing bells of the church in Cadirac in the French Pyrenees, not far from his family home.
By contrast, the most famous part of Johannes Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 1 is undoubtedly the so-called “Gypsy rondo” – Rondo alla zingarese, challenging for the performers. This is the first piece by Brahms that shows elements of the Romani musical style, at the time commonly associated with Hungary. In later years, these influences, among other features of his style, helped this German Romantic rise to great fame.
