During one of the Jazztopad concerts at Mleczarnia Club & Cafe, Ava Mendoza will perform in her solo project. Voice and guitar – that’s enough to enchant the audience, after all her latest release is titled New Spells.

Ava Mendoza is a guitarist, vocalist and composer who combines various genres in her music. For years, she has been considered one of the most interesting instrumentalists on the avant-garde scene. Her name has appeared on the lists of the most important guitarists of such magazines as DownBeat and Guitar World. Now she returns with a new album, well received by the audience and critics.

As Ava Mendoza admits, work on the musical material took several years, but the entire album was recorded during the lockdown in 2021. New Spells are spells and prayers for times of breakthrough, helping you say goodbye to the past and enter the future – including the future of music. Marc Ribot has written that “it is a beautiful, powerful and truly original album for electric guitar solo: not just another album, but a new sound, a new voice.” Virtuoso technique combined with Mendoza’s expressiveness make the stories emerging from her work memorable.
