He has received praise for the versatility and diversity of his work. He has produced many great albums, including for Otis Sandsjö/Y-Otis and former Phronesis drummer Anton Eger, leads the Koma Saxo collective and is considered one of the most exciting bassists in Europe. He has recorded with Django Bates (ECM), Kit Downes (ENEMY), Lucia Cadotsch and Gard Nilssen. Petter Eldh returns to the NFM, where he will present the Drums Project.
Swedish bassist and producer Petter Eldh has been behind the development of collaboration between the Berlin scene and the Nordic countries since he moved to the German capital ten years ago. Among the musicians who inspire him, he mentions the legendary masters of the jazz double bass: Charles Mingus and Charlie Haden. However, his new project, which he will present at the National Forum of Music, shifts the emphasis to a different instrument.
The Drums project was conceived as a platform for collaboration with the best drummers of the contemporary jazz scene. This is the most collaborative of Eldh’s musical initiatives. Flow, improvisation, pushing boundaries and the joy of playing make it worth seeing live. Jazz is a starting point here, not a destination. Project Drums’ music, focused on percussive rhythm, is sonorous, complex and hypnotizing. Each artist has space to experiment and improvise while remaining part of a coherent but mobile whole. The project reflects the spirit of collaboration, experimentation and improvisation, which are key to the contemporary jazz scene. This is truly innovative music. During the Jazztopad Festival, Petter Eldh will be joined by Otis Sandsjö, who will play the saxophone, Latvian flutist Ketija Ringa Karahona and English drum virtuoso James Maddren.
