With four premieres, the final episode of the Wrocław-Łódź festival mini-series 71/42 will keep you in suspense until the last sounds written by Marta Śniady in the score of the piece closing the programme. The repertoire will consist of works by two resident composers of Musica Polonica Nova and of pieces by Wojciech Głódys, Jacek Sotomski and Rafał Augustyn. The only piece that will not be premiered is a composition by Artur Zagajewski, presented for the first time during last year’s edition of the famous Summer Courses of New Music in Darmstadt.
Zagajewski, a musician in a punk band in his youth, in [...]! premiered in Germany by the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna draws inspiration from his musical beginnings. We know well that such a return to his musical roots, breaking cultural barriers, has become a fixture of his character. Like Artur Zagajewski, Wojciech Głódys is connected with Łódź and graduated last year in composition from the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music, where he studied with Sławomir Kaczorowski and... Artur Zagajewski.
The first composer representing the Wrocław artistic community will be Jacek Sotomski – a student of Cezary Duchnowski and Agata Zubel. Earlier, he will perform at the 34th Musica Polonica Nova as a member of Ensemble Kompopolex. He also plays in the sultan hagavik duo. Rafał Augustyn studied, among others, with Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, but he was also shaped by meetings with György Ligeti. He received several awards for his musical achievements. For many years, he was also on the faculty of the Polish Department at the University of Wrocław. During the final concert, New Music Ensemble musicians will present a performance of Body X Ultra by Marta Śniady in a new version entitled Glass Edition.
The 71/42 project was created in collaboration with the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź.
