The festival concert of NeoQuartet will show the richness and diversity of sources of inspiration used by composers of contemporary music. The three artists whose work we will listen to were prodded to create new works by literature, modern technologies and pop culture, the latter also in its niche, subcultural version.

Agata Zemla studied at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław with Cezary Duchnowski. She was further shaped by her travels – to Copenhagen, Berlin and London. She is a committed artist who uses music to express her views on political and social issues. She also has an education in biology, and the science has an influence on her work. The title of Zemla’s latest work – Pójdź za nim przez dolinę [Follow Him through the Valley], which will be premiered by NeoQuartet, is also the original title of Marek Hłasko’s last novel entitled Owl, the Baker's Daughter. Adrian Foltyn, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the class of Stanisław Krupowicz, deals with the issue of artificial intelligence, which is sparking heated discussions. He has been interested in it for a long time. Already in 2013, together with Paweł Lisek, he prepared the installation Artificial Intelligence in Intelligent Art. While working on Expect the Unexplained, he used several hundred harmonic progressions used by DJs, creating a generative algorithm that became one of the means for composing music.

At the end of the concert, the musicians will present a piece by Paweł Hendrich. In Thall'Em All he refers to Metallica’s debut album from 1983 and the activities of the Swedish band Vildhjarta. The composition by the artistic director of the MPN translates the musical language of certain metal subgenres into the performance capabilities of a string quartet. Therefore, the artists perform some of their parts on electric instruments. While playing them, they use an unusual technique: they use only their right hand.
