Argentina, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Norway, along with jazz, free improvisation, rock, noise, traditional and electronic music, the clash of cultures and diverse musical worlds – what does this year’s Melting Pot Made in Wrocław hold?
Every person sensitive to sound should experience at least once in their life this moment when the entire musical fabric, the entire structure, and form emerges here and now, from scratch. Where there is no composition to fall back on, there is pure improvisation. This year, five musicians from seven countries are meeting in the NFM foyer. Will one aesthetic dominate the others? Will one musician take the reins and begin to moderate the musical action? Will the artists find common ground? We will find out during the concert.
Hania Derej, a pianist from Silesia who also enjoys using electronics, will perform. She turned twenty this year but has nine original albums and over one hundred and twenty solo and collaborative pieces to her name. She has also performed at festivals such as the OFF Festival, Pol'and'Rock, and Męskie Granie. She loves Debussy, Corea, and Jarrett, and appreciates Billie Eilish. She will be accompanied by violinist and vocalist Kasia Kapela, whose primary field of research and creative exploration is Polish traditional music. In 2012, she co-founded the award-winning trio Sutari. Norwegian double bassist Henrik Sandstad Dalen, specialising in improvisation and jazz, and Argentinian baritone saxophonist and improviser Sofia Salvo, who is passionate about noise, free jazz, and experimental music, will also appear on stage. They will be joined by Austrian drummer Judith Schwarz.
