Krzyżowa-Music is an international chamber music festival. It has been held regularly since 2015 in Krzyżowa – a place that symbolises the desire for peaceful integration of Europe, exchange and culture like no other. The idea for the event comes from its artistic director, the violinist Viviane Hagner, who has performed all over the world. As a frequent participant of the legendary chamber music festival Marlboro Music, she saw the potential in Krzyżowa to host a similar festival in Europe.
Marlboro Music was founded by musicians forced to leave Europe to escape persecution by the Nazis. Krzyżowa (Kreisau), in turn, was an important point of resistance against Hitler’s regime and gained recognition as a place of Polish-German reconciliation. Every summer, the festival hosts masterclasses in music. World-famous instrumentalists and promising talents of classical music meet to make music together and share experiences between generations. This year’s programme will include over forty chamber pieces. The fruits of their musicmaking will be presented by the seniors and juniors of Krzyżowa-Music during eight concerts in Lower Silesia. As part of this edition, one of them will be held again at the NFM.
During the concert, we will hear the world premiere of a work commissioned by the festival by this year’s composer-in-residence Brett Dean, Starred Last Night, I Shone for mezzo-soprano and string trio. In addition, there will be the Quartet for Clarinet and String Trio by Krzysztof Penderecki and Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor op. 60 by Johannes Brahms, as well as one more chamber piece, selected during intensive rehearsals in Krzyżowa and announced shortly before the concert.
