Piotr Alexewicz, the pianist we all cheered on during the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, will perform at the NFM. The artist – the only Pole among the eleven pianists who reached the finals of the competition – is a native of Wrocław and a graduate and lecturer at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music. In Warsaw, he won 5th prize and was also honoured with the Audience Award.
Alexewicz studied at the Wrocław Academy with Professor Paweł Zawadzki. He received tuition from Nikolai Demidenko. He is currently honing his skills at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in the class of Professor Konstantin Scherbakov. He has won several competitions. In addition to his latest award, he has won two prizes at the National Chopin Piano Competition organised by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute (2017, 2020). He also won second prize in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. Last year, he won the Concerto Competition at the PianoTexas Festival. He also triumphed in the Jmanuel and Evamaria Schenk Foundation competition, receiving all the special awards. He has made recordings. As a pianist, he has already released two albums for the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute. As a singer, he was among the young artists featured on a disc of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s works, recorded under the direction of Maestro Andrzej Kosendiak with the NFM Choir, Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, and NFM Boys’ Choir.
During the concert at the NFM, Alexewicz will present Fryderyk Chopin’s compositions. It was these pieces, performed by Alexewicz in the competition, that, thanks to his combination of intellectual analysis and vivid interpretation, captivated the jurors, critics, and all others who followed the participants of the 19th edition of the competition, whose results were announced on 20 October.
