Random Check 8 | UN-ORGANIC is another iteration of an interdisciplinary project resulting from the collaboration of students, doctoral candidates, and faculty from Wrocław’s art schools, along with invited guests. This time, we will present ten audiovisual compositions with performative and installation elements.
The leitmotif of this edition is UN-ORGANIC. However, we are interested not in what is (simply) unorganic, but in what is reversed and impossible without the organic (i.e., living, human, natural, biological, etc.).
UN-ORGANIC is an exceptionally flexible category-in-process that continually reflects our relationship to nature and technology, to the nature-culture dichotomy in the 21st century, to the processes of spontaneous hybridisation of the human and nonhuman worlds (including machines and AI), and to the prostheticisation of human thought and communication capabilities with increasingly “human” silicon solutions. New media art and new technologies are unlearning the classical image of a world composed of dead (unorganic) and living (organic/living) matter, and UN-ORGANIC reverses the traditional way of thinking about history. In its dynamism and vagueness, it abolishes previous fixed points of reference, looping the history of humans and machines, nature and technology. New media are returning to an “artificial”, virtual reality – an image of nature that art and culture have created from the beginning to meet human needs. The twilight of classical visions of nature and humans is approaching. Will UN-ORGANIC save us from disappearing?
