On Valentine Day, you can expect a very special concert inspired by Pauline Oliveros’s practice of deep listening. A trio bringing together Izabella Effenberg, Radek Szarek, and Martin Weinert, will move between seductive improvisations and the romantic themes of Fryderyk Chopin, Claude Debussy, and Krzysztof Komeda.
Oliveros, an American composer and improviser who plays the accordion, began formulating the idea of deep listening in the 1970s. At that time, she was interested in Native American cultures, among other things. Her goal was to achieve a state of profound awareness of sound. This practice involves making music in a mental state highly receptive to sound and in spaces of significant resonance.
The versatile artist Izabella Effenberg says that her creative work is a journey guided by the compass of her curiosity and love of sound. During the concert, you will immerse yourself in the evocative sounds of the vibraphone, mbira array, and glass harp played by her. Effenberg’s compositions will be accompanied by motifs from works by Fryderyk Chopin and Claude Debussy, as well as themes by Krzysztof Komeda. Accompanied by Radek Szarek, she will build a resonant cosmos using percussion instruments. Martin Weinert’s electronics will lend a special aura to the two musicians’ performance, providing a subtle and refined complement to the whole. In this vein, the trio aims to enrich the featured melodies with improvisations, sound art, and electronic processing of acoustic vibrations – always listening deeply. Visuals and light will complement the atmosphere. Deep Listening is the perfect idea for a sonic date – alone or as a couple!
