Freddie De Tommaso – a star shining bright in the opera firmament and a singer renowned for appearances across the globe – will perform in Wrocław with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. This occasion marks the tenor’s first visit to Poland. The evening, filled with music rich in sensuality and passion, will be conducted by Michelangelo Mazza.
Freddie De Tommaso is one of the few tenors to hold an exclusive contract with the Decca Classics label. On his 2022 album Il Tenore, he embodied characters such as Don José – dazed by Carmen’s charms – Cavaradossi (Tosca’s idealistic admirer), and Pinkerton, the US Navy officer who cruelly abandoned Madame Butterfly. He has performed these major roles at venues including the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. 2026 sees him introducing audiences to Marina, the long-lost debut opera by Umberto Giordano. Esteemed conductor Michelangelo Mazza has led various opera productions and gala concerts featuring musical luminaries such as Elīna Garanča and Roberto Alagna. His career has taken him to cities including Berlin, Palermo, Budapest, Tokyo, Seoul, and São Paulo. It is safe to say that both artists live and breathe the beauty of opera.
The first part of the evening will be dedicated to the music of Giuseppe Verdi, a composer loved by audiences. The gala will open with musical fireworks from Nabucco – the work that catapulted the composer to fame. The most beautiful excerpts from masterpieces such as Il trovatore, Un ballo in maschera, and Aida will be heard alongside rarely performed gems, such as the aria La mia letizia infondere from I Lombardi alla prima crociata. After the intermission, the programme will feature the works of verismo composers and Neapolitan songs. From the undying hope of Nessun dorma and the mourning of Come un bel dì di maggio to the bitter irony of Vesti la giubba, Freddie De Tommaso will reveal the full emotional range of the opera protagonist, borne on the wings of inspiration. Not far removed from this style are the wistful Tu ca nun chiagne and the amorous I’ te vurria vasà – one of the most popular melodies born in Naples. There is no doubt that a breeze from the Tyrrhenian Sea will reach Wrocław this evening…
