Esperanza Spalding is a double bassist, vocalist and composer, who in recent years has become one from the most popular personalities of world jazz. Her phonographic output contains six original albums, for which she received a total of four Grammy Awards. The first Grammy was won in the broad Best New Artist category, which had never been achieved by jazz artists before her (Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons were other nominees for the award at the time).

In her career, so far Esperanza Spalding has appeared with such music icons as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Prince and Stevie Wonder. She also took part in recording albums of jazz artists, including Jack DeJohnette and Joe Lovano, and pop stars like Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe. In spite of her young age, she received a professorship from Harvard University last year, and in May 2018 the title of doctor honoris causa from the Berklee College of Music. Esperanza’s  album, Exposure, was released in December 2017 by Concord Records. Esperanza Spalding introduced a pioneering solution for her fans: through a social network, she broadcast live her work on the material being created. The relationship lasted three days without interruption and showed the whole process of recording the album: from creating tracks to post-production. During the transmission, advance sale of the album was conducted, and the limited edition of 7,777 copies was sold out on the third day of the band's work at NRG Recording Studios. Esperanza Spalding, in addition to her artistic work, is also involved in charity and is an advocate of racial equality.
