We invite you to a concert of the Lutosławski Quartet! We will hear works that have entered the canon of contemporary classical music, as well as premieres of two works by Polish artists.
The compositions of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt are among the most popular and most frequently performed works of the present day. His Summa from 1977, which will begin the concert, was written for choir to the text of Credo, but later the composer also developed a version for other line-ups. The simplicity of this music is apparent and effectively masks its high degree of complexity. The work is accessible, euphonic, soft, gentle and, in a way, timeless. The concert will be crowned with the performance of another composition originally intended for a choir and later arranged for other ensembles, Da pacem Domine from 2004. It was commissioned by Jordi Savall, who wanted to add splendour to a concert for peace in Barcelona by performing this beautiful, meditative work. We will also listen to Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 3 ‘Mishima’ written in 1985. The American composer compiled this work from the music for the film by Paul Schrader Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, about the life and dramatic death of Yukio Mishima, one of the greatest Japanese writers of the 20th century. The quartet consists of six links and is a moving, emotional tribute to the writer’s work.
During the concert, compositions of the musicians of the Lutosławski Quartet will be presented too. The 5th String Quartet by Marcin Markowicz, co-founder and second violinist of the ensemble, as well as On Difficulties in Building Pyramids - a script for a string quartet by Marcin Młodawski, a cellist quartet and concertmaster of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, will have its premiere.
