The NFM Choir, the NFM Boys’ Choir, the Lutosławski Quartet and Agnieszka Lewandowska-Gryś will perform. The programme includes works by Witold Lutosławski, one of the classics of 20th-century music, and Michał Ziółkowski, a young composer based in Wrocław.
Witold Lutosławski is one of the most important Polish composers active in the last century. Although he went down in history as a composer of orchestral and vocal-instrumental works advanced in terms of harmonics and sound colours, at the beginning of his composing career he also sometimes wrote folk songs for profit. It was then that he composed Ten Polish Folksongs on Soldiers’ Themes, completed in 1951. We will hear them arranged by Paweł Łukaszewski for mixed choir a cappella.
Michał Ziółkowski was born in 1991 in Zakopane. He became seriously interested in music only at the age of fifteen, but this passion turned out to be so strong that he decided to study composition with Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil. Currently, he lectures at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. In music, he is most interested in achieving a subtle sound, colourful instrumentation and clarity of form. The concert will feature his suite From Dusk till Dawn – fairy tales from the Vistula forests and mountains.
