During this chamber concert, you will hear trios and sonatas by four composers. They will be works by French, Russian and Polish artists. The great attraction of the programme are the compositions of Feliks Janiewicz, a prominent composer active at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Janiewicz, who comes from Vilnius, is a mysterious figure about whom little is known. As a young musician, he performed at the court of King Stanisław August Poniatowski. He successfully developed his career in Italy and France, and above all in England. Taking part in a series of prestigious concerts organized by Johann Peter Salomon, he gained international reputation and won a group of loyal admirers. His oeuvre includes primarily violin pieces that require excellent technique and solid craft from the instrumentalist. The compositions written by Janiewicz are inspired by Italian, Swiss and Polish folklore. The most important works by the violinist include five violin concertos, a piano concerto and a collection of six trios for two violins and cello. The first and fourth of them will be heard during the concert in Wrocław. Polish music closer to our times will be represented by the youthful Sonata for two violins, op. 10 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, written in 1957. It is a piece that captivates with the richness of sound, full of expressive dynamic contrasts. Dynamic episodes, replete with dissonances, connect here with fragments characterized by gentleness and a mood of reflection. No less fascinating is the light, graceful, sunny Sonata for violin and cello by Maurice Ravel, written at the beginning of the third decade of the 20th century.
The programme will be presented by contemporary masters of string instruments: two-time Fryderyk winner Bartłomiej Nizioł, concertmaster of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Radosław Pujanek and award-winning cellist Tomasz Daroch.
