During the concert featuring the ensembles of the National Forum of Music: the NFM Choir under the artistic direction of Lionel Sow, the NFM Boys’ Choir and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, alongside the "Con Brio" Choir conducted by Jacek Rogala and Małgorzata Podzielny, we will listen to valuable choral and instrumental works by 20th- and 21st-century British composers. A repertoire of colourful organ pieces, representing a spectrum of various emotions, will be performed by Tomasz Głuchowski.
The evening will begin with the monumental timbre of the organ – in the space of the Main Hall you will hear compositions by John Rutter followed by the joyful spontaneity of the Toccata in Seven, nostalgic Elegy and expressively contrasting Festive Bells. They will be preceded by the Recessional op. 94 no. 4, Processional, as well as the Fanfare, composed by one of the greatest twentieth-century Welsh composers William Mathias, using an eclectic musical language, but not devoid of characteristic and original elements.
In the choral part of the concert, we will hear works whose common denominator is praising the subtle beauty of nature and the good that comes from the blessing of God: the Irish Blessing by Bob Chilcott, The Lord Is My Shepherd (Psalm 23) by Howard Goodall and For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter. Their gentle, melodic phrases will lead to the composition crowning the concert, which is in fact a kind of mass. The Mass of the Children by Rutter was born out of a desire to create a work that would bring children and adults together. The composer prioritized the children’s choir, entrusting it with a central role: children’s voices begin the piece and integrate the concept of the entire composition, the perfect orchestration of which, together with the selection of voices, contributes to the work’s moving message and gives it a significant place in the tradition of choral music.
