Giovanni Legrenzi went down in history as one of the most influential Italian composers of the second half of the 17th century. Wrocław Baroque Ensemble conducted by Andrzej Kosendiak will perform his selected works, including those from the collection of Wrocław University Library.
Legrenzi was a composer of operas, vocal and instrumental music. He was also remembered as an excellent organist. His work had a huge influence on the development of late baroque idioms in the music of northern Italy. Over the years, he served as Kapellmeister in Ferrara and Venice. He was also a co-creator of the bel canto style or the da capo aria, but he also made a significant contribution to the da chiesa and da camera sonata. His oeuvre includes about twenty operas, numerous oratorios, cantatas, arias and duets. Legrenzi’s students included Antonio Vivaldi and most probably Antonio Caldara. For his sonata works, Alessandro Scarlatti clearly drew from him.
During the concert, Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, led by Andrzej Kosendiak, will perform both secular and sacred compositions. Sonatas from the collections Sonate a due, tre, cinque, e sei istromenti op. 8, parts of the collection Harmonia d'affetti devoti op. 3 or Sacri e festivi concenti, messa e salmi a due chori, con stromenti a beneplacito op. 9.
