The concert in the Minor Basilica of St Elizabeth in Wrocław will be filled with the graceful sound of three children’s choirs: the NFM Boys’ Choir, the “Vognyk” Girls’ Choir and the “Dzvinochok” Boys’ Choir. There will also be traditional Ukrainian singing as well as compositions by English and Polish artists. The young choristers will be led by conductors: Ruben Tolmachov, Olena Solovey and Małgorzata Podzielny.

The first to be heard are the subtle works by authors from the United Kingdom: The Lord Is My Shepherd (Psalm 23) by Howard Goodall and The Call of Wisdom by Will Todd. They will be preceded by works of the Italian composer Lorenzo Donati and Grzegorz Miśkiewicz. You will also hear several Ukrainian vocal works, including by the 18th-century composer Maksym Berezovsky – one of the first authors of Ukrainian choral singing in sacred music. Even though the output he left us is small, his legacy is still seen today as an essential element in the history of Eastern music. In addition, the three choirs will sing together Shchedryk – the work of Mykola Leontovych – whose melody inspired the western Carol of the Bells. The inspiration for Shchedryk were Ukrainian winter ritual songs referred to as shredrivki. The young artists will present works by the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, who is now very appreciated in the choral world: On Our Street based on an Estonian folk song, and four Bulgarian folk songs – Kaval sviri, Svatba, Malka moma and Ergen deda. These are just some of the works included in the programme of the Sunday concert, and it will be an excellent opportunity to get to know the beauty of children’s voices.
