We invite you to the 58th International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, one of the most important classical music events in Europe.

Founded in 1966 by Andrzej Markowski as an oratorio and cantata festival, Wratislavia Cantans to this day focuses primarily on celebrating the beauty of the human voice. Presented by the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, it epitomises the highest artistic and organisational quality. Each year, concerts of classical music stars attract thousands of music lovers to the state-of-the-art halls of the NFM, the historic venues of Wrocław and several towns in Lower Silesia.

In recent years, Wratislavia Cantans has hosted, among others, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Zubin Mehta with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Philippe Herreweghe, Giovanni Antonini, Paul McCreesh, Julia Lezhneva, Philippe Jaroussky, Jordi Savall and such ensembles as: Collegium Vocale Gent, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Gabrieli Consort & Players, Il Giardino Armonico, and English Baroque Soloists.

The title of this year’s edition – Mother Nature – was inspired by Joseph Haydn’s The Seasons. During the festival, we will look at how people understand nature, relate to it and how they perceive their relationships with it since the dawn of time. Thus, both human and cosmic perspectives will intertwine. We will look for their roots, immersing ourselves in Baroque and folk music. There will also be questions about the creation of the world and the place that humans occupy in it, which will culminate in the finale of the festival with a programme referring to the elements. The motif of nature will be present in each concert programme, in the works of not only old composers, but also contemporary ones. The festival will touch upon the theme of motherhood and its cultural relationships with nature – both in the biblical and anthropological context. Mother Nature encourages us to ask ourselves existential questions and at the same time experience the joy of music.
