On New Year's Eve at the National Forum of Music we will celebrate the coming of the New Year in Viennese style. The distance of four hundred kilometers between Wrocław and the capital of Austria will not matter at all on this special night: the National Forum of Music will move to Vienna's Ringstraße, and water from the Danube will flow in the Odra river bed! Singers Amber Norelai and Simon Schnorr will perform together with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. The concert will be conducted by Michał Juraszek, who knows the musical atmosphere of the Austrian metropolis perfectly. This will be an event that no music lover can miss!
For hundreds of years, Vienna was the glorious capital of the great Austrian empire. The artistic patronage of the ruling Habsburg dynasty and the aristocrats gathered around the imperial court created an excellent environment in which musicians grew and flourished. No wonder, that the rising city attracted many great musical artists who settled and wrote their classic pieces there. The musical tradition of Vienna has been unraveling for centuries. Its prime did not end with the dusk of the Viennese classics : Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. Vienna remains the musical capital of the world to this day!
In the 1870s, operetta began to rule the city. The style of the Viennese variety of this genre was established by Johann Strauss (son). The path marked out by the author of Die Fledermaus was later followed by Franz Lehár and Robert Stolz, who composed works that enjoyed popularity all over the world. The best arias from their operettas performed under the baton of Michał Juraszek will be a pleasant company in saying farewell to the year 2023. And then, following the tradition of New Year's concerts, we will listen to the most popular Straussian polkas and waltzes.
The New Year's Eve concert at the National Forum of Music is divided in two parts. Join us on New Year's Eve on December 31. An additional performance with the same repertoire will also take place the day before.
