On the festival Thursday, we pay particular attention to accordion music. During the concert co-organised by the Wrocław Division of the Polish Composers’ Union, the partnership between Wrocław and Łódź, which is one of the themes of this year’s Musica Polonica Nova festival, will be expanded to include cooperation with the artistic community of Upper Silesia. It was this region that Grażyna Krzanowska chose to settle down in. The Silesian String Quartet, operating since 1978, comes from the community of the Academy of Music in Katowice.
The musicians of this ensemble premiered Krzanowska’s Clash at the Kraków Accordion Festival last year. They were accompanied by Maciej Frąckiewicz, winner of the Paszport Polityki award, who, despite his young age, is one of the leading Polish accordionists. The artist, playing solo, will present Angstarre by Tomasz Skweres, who lives in Vienna and Regensburg. Then he will interpret Before the Morning Comes – a work by Marcin Bortnowski, a talented Wrocław-based artist, one of the most famous students of Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil. He will also premiere a new composition by Anna Porzyc, who is deeply involved in the musical life of Wrocław. Another piece – A-cordeON by Michał Moc – was premiered by Maciej Frąckiewicz in 2017 at the Warsaw Autumn festival. Magdalena Bojanowicz played with him at that time. During this year’s MPN he will be accompanied by Tomasz Daroch – an award-winning cellist. He combines work at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy in Łódź with playing in the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra and the Polish Cello Quartet.
