The Friday programme of the 34th Musica Polonica Nova is dense and diverse. Immediately after the concert, during which we will hear two new works by Artur Zagajewski, Pierre Jodlowski, artistic director of Musica Electronica Nova, will invite you to the presentation of his show entitled Mad Max. Originally commissioned by the Festival Aujourd’hui Musiques, the performance combines references to several film works, not only the eponymous series of films directed by George Miller.
The performer during Mad Max will be Aleksander Wnuk. In the first part, he will play the role of a possessed motorcyclist, who can easily be recognised as a visitor from a post-apocalyptic world. But is the character on stage really just a fictional hero? Next, the spotlight will be on a big drum – a film prop from the 2015 reboot of the series. In the finale, in which Wnuk will play the vibraphone, he will be accompanied by characteristic breathing coming from a completely different film universe.
Aleksander Wnuk, responsible for the realisation of Pierre Jodlowski’s surprising ideas, is a versatile artist – percussionist, improviser and performer specialising in contemporary and experimental music. His collaborators, apart from the author of Mad Max, include Sara Nemtsov, Trond Reinholdtsen and Matthew Shlomowitz. He is a member of groups such as Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, in addition to performing in duets with Paulina Owczarek and Michał Lazar.
