In Mikhail Bakhtin's classic theory, carnival is the time when the world functions “upside down”, upending everyday laws and hierarchies. There is therefore no better time of the year to play pop hits in Polish and international versions on the magnificent symphonic organ. Led by Mariusz Lewy, The Singing Heads will present the songs that entertained and energised us in the past decades. They will be accompanied by Tymoteusz Ekert on the organ.

The artists from Łódź will begin the concert with the sublime 19th-century English song Scarborough Fair, recorded in the 20th century in countless versions, the most famous of which was the one by Simon & Garfunkel. The next item in the repertoire, Masterpiece by Paul Drayton, although it references the style of great composers, has no pathos as it is a satire on the classical musical canon. Immediately afterwards, a festival of hits in original arrangements prepared specially for this concert performers will begin. Among others, Sweet Child O’Mine by Guns N’ Roses, Take on Me by a-ha, hits by The Queen, Africa by Toto, Can’t Take My Eyes of You from the repertoire of Frankie Valli, Happy Together by The Turtles, Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues, Między ciszą a ciszą by Grzegorz Turnau, Cykady na Cykladach by Maanam, Jesteśmy na wczasach sung once by Wojciech Młynarski, Nie dokazuj performed by Marek Grechuta. The whole thing will end with… cabaret songs by Joanna Kołaczkowska. The Singing Heads consists of talented students and graduates of Łódź universities. The consort is known not only for its great interpretative skills, but also for its exceptional contact with the audience. The group’s performing style channels the popular trend of very effective singing in polyphony, the so-called barbershop harmony, popular in the United States in the first half of the 20th century. Mariusz Lewy – their leader – is a laureate of the National Prof. Stanisław Kulczyński Competition for Choral Conductors in Poznań and very active figure in Łódź musical life.
