A project like no other! During the Polish Presidency of the European Union, on 19 June, the World Jewish Philharmonic performs at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, i.e. musicians and personalities from the world of music from thirty countries – from Singapore to the United States and Argentina, from Germany to Israel.
This special orchestra will be led by the acclaimed conductor and artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège – Gergely Madaras. Superb soloists will grace us: soprano Aleksandra Kurzak, a star of the greatest opera stages, winner of the International Opera Award, outstanding violinist and the youngest concertmaster in history of the Berliner Philharmoniker Guy Braunstein and mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital. These artists will surely add a unique colour to the Wrocław event.
The concert is guided by a universal message of friendship and respect. The basis for inviting almost a hundred people associated with Jewish culture was the idea of uniting people through music and in music. The magic of this project lies in the plethora of artistic and personal connections that create an international network.
The repertoire also reflects these values: from world music through opera arias and the virtuoso violin concerto by Henryk Wieniawski to the great work of Gustav Mahler – his most famous and most frequently performed Symphony No. 5 in C sharp minor. It is worth noting that the fourth movement of this piece, the famous Adagietto, has been used many times in film productions, for example in A Death in Venice directed by Luchino Visconti.
The organiser of the project is the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland. The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture – a state special purpose fund. This is a cultural event of the Polish presidency of the EU Council.
