Nearly throughout the entire festival, at the WRO Art Center you will be able to see Mute Music – an exhibition by Maciej Markowski, inspired by John Zorn's hypnotic Dark River from his 1995 Redbird album, a minimalist, precise and spiritual chamber jazz/ambient release dedicated to Agnes Martin. Maciej Markowski, the person behind the installation's concept and performance, is a member of the Małe Instrumenty ensemble, composer and author of multimedia installations.
A chamber made of thick plexiglas, installed on an oak pedestal is equipped with a speaker that plays John Zorn's "Dark River" on loop. Vacuum is produced inside the chamber, so due to the lack of air, in this situation a conductor of acousrtic waves for the human ear, the composition is not heard outside the plexiglass walls. The only way to experience it is through observation of the visual effects that are the outcome of playing the song: intense movement of the speaker and the steady pace of the sound level meter.
Opening: 19.05.2017, 5:00 pm
Exhibition open from 20-27 May 2017 at 11:00 am – 6:00 pm and during the festival concerts at the NFM
