In 2018, we celebrate the centenary of Poland regaining its independence. The year 2019 is also special it is the 200th birthday anniversary of the very important Polish composer Stanisław Moniuszko. It is a great pleasure and privilege to be able to celebrate these occasions with a special musical scenario.

The NFM Education Department and NFM Wrocław Philharmonic want  to join this celebration through a unique programme aimed at bringing the young Polish audience closer to the work of the Polish composer. Moniuszko dreamed about a free Poland throughout his entire life. The meeting will be an opportunity to learn how Stanisław Moniuszko struggled for independence during the difficult period of the partitions, writing patriotic, Polish music. The concert will be filled with the greatest fragments of his work written for a symphony orchestra (Fairy Tale Overture, Highlanders’ Dances from Halka and the famous Mazur from The Haunted Manor) and the most popular arias (Prząśniczka, Zosia’s Song and The Old Clock).

We will find out how thanks to the regularly written song books, i.e. The Home Songbooks, Moniuszko tried to preserve the Polish language and our tradition, as well as to bring comfort to Poles who longed for their free homeland. To explain why we consider the composer born in Ubiel near Minsk as our compatriot, we will complement our concert with relevant facts from history and geography.
