The concert of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic under the baton of the outstanding Georgian conductor George Tchitchinadze will include works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Krzysztof Meyer and Richard Strauss, and the biggest attraction of the concert will be the premiere of a new composition by Mikołaj Górecki.
The first work in the programme is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony in G major No. 32, composed in 1779. This very short work consists of three movements: fast, slow and fast. Full of energy, the hit composition was used in 1785 as an overture to the comic opera La villanella rapita by Francesco Bianchi, staged in Vienna. This time the symphony will serve as an introduction to another work: Mikołaj Górecki’s Sinfonia concertante. This piece is intended for five solo cellos and an orchestra. Born in 1971 in Katowice, the artist is the author of numerous chamber, orchestral and concert compositions. He currently lives in the United States. Caro Luigi is a short composition for four cellos and strings, coming from the very rich oeuvre of Krzysztof Meyer. This composer, pianist, teacher and author, born in 1943 in Kraków, has in his output numerous works representing many forms and genres, and intended for various compositions. Meyer is the author of, inter alia, nine symphonies, fourteen string quartets and nine instrumental concertos.
The concert will end with the performance of the lavish, colorful Suite from the three-act comic opera Der Rosenkavalier op. 59 by Richard Strauss. Although the premiere of the opera took place in 1911, the Suite is much later, as it was created in the mid-1940s. It with the most characteristic rhythm of a waltz, associated with the Strauss family. Richard Strauss, however, had nothing to do with the famous waltz composers, and the similarity of names is totally coincidental!
