The two pianists Sunna Gunnlaugs from Iceland and Julia Hülsmann from Germany first met in Berlin in 2013 where they performed together at the prestigious Felleshus. Little did they know that the connection they formed would carry them to festivals in Iceland, Germany, Belgium and Sweden over the next 8 years. The duo explores each others compostions with a mutual admiration and fascination that conjures artist interaction in its purest form.

'The coming of these two exceptional pianists to Le Gaume was an event' — Le Soil, Belgium
'The four-hands of Sunna Gunnlaugs and Julia Hülsmann was the absolute highlight' — Jazzenzo.nl

Sundial Trio, previously known as Jachna/Tarwid/Karch, isreleasing their 4th album, „IV”. It’s already been eight years since the debut, „Sundial” was recorded. The band has changed in various ways until now. The trio has performed at many festivals, such as Hevhetia Festival, Warszawa Singera, International Jazz Piano Festival in Kalisz. And not only was there a saxophonist Irek Wojtczak appearing on the previous album („Sundial III”). There is also a new drummer from now on, Krzysztof Szmanda replacing Albert Karch. The music is still an original mixture of idioms from contemporary European jazz and musicians take their inspirations from connecting spontaneous improvisation with not necessarily jazz composition. Grzegorz Tarwid has composed the majority of the pieces, but there are also two large compositions from Szmanda, „Misy” and „Aknakaks” as well as an improvisation with an impressionistic texture, „Hator” brought by Jachna. The sound of the new material, recorded in Polish Radio Studio S3, is produced by Michał Kupicz.
