During the inaugural concert of this year’s Musica Polonica Nova in the Red Hall, performers active in contemporary music will perform: Małgorzata Walentynowicz, Dorota Walentynowicz and Sławomir Wojciechowski, as well as Janusz Orlik – a dancer and choreographer considered one of the leading artists of the Polish contemporary dance scene.
The first part of the concert will feature Rituals for prepared piano, electronics and video, by Sławomir Wojciechowski - a piece written with the pianist Małgorzata Walentynowicz in mind. Its foundation is made of several complex textures, involving both the piano part and samples from various sources: jazz, rock, popular, contemporary or classical music. The colourful video by Dorota Walentynowicz accompanying the musical layer subtly emphasizes its dynamics.
The concert will end with Dance ex machina for piano, dance, video and electronics by Jakub Krzewiński and Anna Sowa with the participation of Janusz Orlik. The main starting point of the piece is movement perceived as an inseparable element of music, related both to the mechanics of various elements of the instrument itself and to the performative gestures present in the pianist’s interpretation. The electroacoustic sounds and choreography shown in the video make up the other important layers of the multimedia project.
