Sara Dragan is one of the most promising Polish violinists of the young generation. During the recital, accompanied by the pianist Sławomir Cieplik, she will perform a number of virtuoso Baroque and Romantic works from international violin literature.
Her performance will be a review of the greatest violin compositions created over centuries. Among them will be the impressive Sonata in G minor “Il trillo del diavolo” by Giuseppe Tartini and the Chaconne by Tomas Antonio Vitali from the late Baroque era. The violin is rightly associated with the figure of its legendary virtuoso, Niccolò Paganini. His I Palpiti op. 13 is a truly virtuoso piece for solo violin, replete with numerous technical difficulties and sophisticated harmonies. This morning, we will also hear the work of the violinist and composer Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, who is considered a worthy successor to Paganini. He based his Grand Caprice on the ballad King of the Alders by Franz Schubert, exploring the essence of Romanticism inherent in the song. The work will be preceded by the unusually fiery Caprice d'apres l'Etude en forme de Valse from the collection Six études op. 52 by Camille Saint-Saëns, arranged by the Belgian composer and violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. The small, yet delightful Poème op. 25 by Ernst Chausson was written in 1896 and dedicated to Ysaÿe. The work will be played in a version for violin and piano. The concert will end with the Carmen Fantasy for violin and piano by the notable Hungarian violinist and composer, Jenő Hubay.
