Femi Kuti travels around the stages of the world, carrying with him the trance and the rhythm to sing his political fights. The artist is back on his tour, staying true to his convictions, mixing civic commitment and musical energy.

On February 5, a remarkable double album was released: Legacy + (Partisan Records) brings together two CDs, one by Femi Kuti, Stop the hate, and the other by his eldest son Made Kuti, For(e)ward. This singular reunion must obviously be placed under the star of Fela Kuti, the herald of Afrobeat and father/grandfather of the two men. It is very symbolic that Femi and Made are on stage together. And even though it is Femi at the helm – if you can call it that, since they are both often on sax – it is very much a family and filial duo that is on stage.

The Nigerian Femi Kuti has always felt the need to denounce, as his father did, the corruption and political scheming in his country – and more generally in Africa. Beyond the desire to continue to bring to life the shock that was the appearance of Afrobeat – his father’s creation – on the music scene, Femi Kuti remains an artist who knows how to offer his audience shows where energy and commitment compete. These concerts are singular experiences – Femi can stay on stage for four or five hours. It is a rare thing for an artist to succeed in never distorting his or her struggles and to carry with them this noble idea of testimony and sharing. Pleasure in every note. And for everyone.
