David Moss

Bach, John Cage, John Coltrane, Charles Ives, mnisi tybetańscy, Harry Partch i Cab Calloway.

David Moss występuje z wykonawcami różnych gatunków muzycznych na całym świecie, m.in. w Filharmonii Berlińskiej, Carnegie Hall, Whitney Museum of American Art, Walker Art Center czy na Salzburger Festspiele.
Otrzymał stypendium od Fundacji Guggenheima (tzw. Guggenheim Fellowship) oraz brał udział w projektach DAAD Artist-in-Berlin oraz Interweaving Performance Cultures Centre (Freie Universität Berlin). Dziś tworzy złożone projekty łączące jego doświadczenie perkusisty, wokalisty, performera, kompozytora, twórcy teatralnego, kuratora i pedagoga.

Jako dyrektor Institute for Living Voice (Berlin) może pokazywać różnorodność i bogactwo sztuki wokalnej, umożliwiać spotkania ludzi i wymianę idei oraz wskazywać nowe kierunki rozwoju.
Artysta jest być może jedynym wokalistą, który śpiewał muzykę Luciana Beria, Carli Bley, Uri Caine’a, Heinera Goebbelsa, Richarda Straussa, George’a Gershwina, Johanna Straussa, Olgi Neuwirth, J.S. Bacha i Johna Coltrane’a.

David Moss mieszka w Berlinie.

---------------

This year is a special year for David Moss: he is the winner of the 2018 Deutsche Musikautorenpreis: Experiment Stimme. He will reprise the role of Mr Eddy (written for him) in the German premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s opera Lost Highway; he will tour Taiwan with Heiner Goebbels’s orchestral work Surrogate Cities, and perform the music of Frank Zappa at the Venice Biennale.

Drumming and singing has shaped his musical life. As his percussionist life mutated creatively into a singer’s life, he has explored the power of the voice through its multitudinous utterances, sounds, languages. Among his influences are J. S. Bach, John Cage, John Coltrane, Charles Ives, Tibetan monks, Harry Partch, and Cab Calloway.

David Moss has appeared with performers of every genre, around the globe – at the Berliner Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall, Whitney Museum of American Art, Walker Art Center, and Salzburg Festival. He received the recognition of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a DAAD Artist-in-Berlin grant, a fellowship at the Interweaving Performance Cultures Centre (Free University, Berlin).

Today he creates complex projects uniting the strands of his life as percussionist, vocalist, performer, composer, theatre-maker, curator, and teacher. As a director of the Institute for Living Voice (Berlin) he can embody voice and presence in a dramatic way – enabling people and ideas to commingle, and offering hints of the structures and joys that lie ahead.

And he is, perhaps, the only vocalist who has sung the music of Luciano Berio, Carla Bley, Uri Caine, Heiner Goebbels, Richard Strauss, George Gershwin, Johann Strauss, Olga Neuwirth, J. S. Bach, and John Coltrane.

Moss lives in Berlin, Germany.
