Ceniona przez publiczność i krytyków, m.in. „New York Magazine” oraz „The New York Times”, laureatka Marian Anderson Award, Indira Mahajan otrzymuje zaproszenia od czołowych teatrów operowych i orkiestr na całym świecie. Jest jedną z najsłynniejszych interpretatorek partii Bess w Porgy and Bess Gershwina – śpiewała ją ponad 120 razy na pięciu kontynentach, w tym w całych Stanach Zjednoczonych, po raz pierwszy w inscenizacji Franceski Zambello w Washington National Opera, później m.in. w Dallas Opera i Lyric Opera of Chicago. W arcydziele Gershwina występowała także w Opéra Comique w Paryżu, Teatro di San Carlo w Neapolu, jak również w Amsterdamie, Monachium, Rzymie, Sao Paulo i Tokio.

W sezonie 2018/19 Indira Mahajan wraca do Fort Worth Opera jako Bess w przedstawieniu w reżyserii Franceski Zambello, zaśpiewa tę rolę także w Czechach z Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (wykonanie koncertowe). W tym sezonie wystąpi gościnnie podczas Międzynarodowego Dnia Kobiet ONZ w 2019 r., w serii koncertów „Dyplomacja w muzyce” prowadzonej przez ambasadora Liechtensteinu, jak również na koncercie zorganizowanym przez ambasadora Tunezji. Wykona m.in. Requiem Mozarta, Fantazję op. 80 i Mszę C-dur op. 86 Beethovena i Mesjasza Händla. Indira Mahajan kreowała rolę Bess w Landestheater Linz (Austria), podczas Festival de Wiltz (Luksemburg), a także w Grand Théâtre de Genéve (Szwajcaria), Chassé Theater w Bredzie (Holandia) i Palais des Festivals et des Congrès w Cannes (Francja). W Rosji dała serię koncertów w Moskwie, Jekaterynburgu i Permie oraz wystąpiła gościnnie w Niemczech w ramach Klangvokal Musikfestival Dortmund. Jej najważniejsze kreacje operowe to role tytułowe w Madame Butterfly i Suor Angelica, Musetta i Mimì w Cyganerii Pucciniego, tytułowa rola w Aidzie, Violetta w Traviacie, Gilda w Rigoletcie Verdiego, Nedda w Pajacach Leoncavalla, tytułowa rola w Łucji z Lammermooru Donizettiego, Sandrina w La finta giardiniera, Zuzanna w Weselu Figara i Donna Elwira w Don Giovannim Mozarta.

Indira Mahajan została wyróżniona New York City Opera Debut Artist of the Year Award oraz Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year Award w Dallas Opera, miała także swój recitalowy debiut w John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts w Waszyngtonie.

Repertuar koncertowy Indiry Mahajan obejmuje dzieła od baroku i klasycyzmu po utwory czołowych współczesnych kompozytorów. Artystkawzięła udział w nagraniu utworu Stevena Stucky’ego August 2, 1964 z Dallas Symphony Orchestra pod dyrekcją dyrektora muzycznego New York Philharmonic, Jaapa Van Zwedena. Śpiewała ponadto partie sopranowe w IX Symfonii Beethovena z Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar pod batutą Gustavo Dudamela w Caracas oraz z KBS Symphony Orchestra w siedzibie ONZ, jak też w Mszy C-dur Beethovena z Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica. Występowała także jako solistka  z New York Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Iceland Symphony Orchestra i Orkiestrą Filharmonii Moskiewskiej.

Nowojorska publiczność oklaskiwała występy śpiewaczki z New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, w Carnegie Hall oraz w recitalu charytatywnym w ramach Classical Action: Performing Arts Against AIDS. Artystka często występuje gościnnie w całej Ameryce – z Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Colorado Symphony i Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Na scenie koncertowej śpiewała w Mszy h-moll i Magnificat Bacha, Requiem Brahmsa oraz Fauré’go, Mszy koronacyjnej i Exsultate, jubilate Mozarta, a także w Carmina burana Orffa. Jej sopran można było usłyszeć w telewizji PBS w ramach cyklu Live from Lincoln  Center w operetce Paul Bunyan Brittena, Iowa Public Television w Madame Butterfly oraz jako solistkę w Richard Tucker Opera Gala w Lincoln Center.

Indira Mahajan ukończyła Mannes College of Music (magisterium), Oberlin College (licencjat), oraz Accademia Musicale Ottorino Respighi.

Indira Mahajan, the Marian Anderson Awardwinning soprano, is in demand by leading opera companies and orchestras worldwide. One of the most celebrated interpreters of the role of Bess, she appeared in that role over 120 times on five continents. In the United States, she has performed the role from coast to coast. She premiered the role in Francesca Zambello’s production at the Washington National Opera. She has also performed the role at the Dallas Opera as well as joining the roster at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The Internationally acclaimed soprano has also appeared in Gershwin’s masterpiece at the Opéra Comique in Paris, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples as well as in the major capital cities of Amsterdam, Munich, Rome, Sao Paulo and Tokyo, among others.

The 2018/19 season Indira Mahajan returns to Fort Worth Opera for performances as Bess in Francesca Zambello’s production of Porgy and Bess. She will also perform the role in concert in the Czech Republic with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. This season also includes a guest performance at the 2019 United Nations International Woman’s Day, as well as a concert series, ‘Diplomacy in Music’ hosted by Ambassador of Liechtenstein, as well as a concert hosted by Ambassador of Tunisia. She will perform as soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Fantasy Op. 80 and Mass in C major Op. 86, as well as in Handel’s Messiah.

Indira Mahajan was awarded both the New York City Opera Debut Artist of the Year Award and Dallas Opera’s Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year Award as well as performing her debut recital at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

Indira Mahajan’s orchestral repertoire extends from works in the Baroque and Classical genres to the foremost composers of today. She can be heard on the recording August 4, 1964 by Steven Stucky with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra conducted by New York Philharmonic music director, Jaap Van Zweden. Her international orchestral highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with both Gustavo Dudamel’s Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in Caracas and with the KBS Symphony Orchestra at the United Nations, as well as Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica. Miss Mahajan has also performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Roma, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

New York audiences have enjoyed her performances with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, as soloist at Carnegie Hall and in performance in a benefit recital for Classical Action: Performing Arts Against AIDS.  Indira Mahajan is a frequent guest artist with orchestras across America, her highlight appearances include performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Colorado Symphony, and Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Other concert performances include Bach’s Mass in B minor and the Magnificat, Requiems by Brahms, Fauré, Mozart’s ‘Coronation’ Mass and Exsultate, jubilate, as well as Orff’s Carmina burana. The soprano has been seen on PBS Live from Lincoln Center in Benjamin Britten’s operetta, Paul Bunyan, Iowa Public Television in Madama Butterfly and as a soloist at The Richard Tucker Gala at Lincoln Center.


Indira Mahajan holds a Master of Music degree from Mannes College of Music, a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a diploma from the Accademia Musicale Ottorino Respighi.
