Zespół w swoim wykonawstwie łączy opartą na badaniach wiedzę muzykologiczną z wyrazistą ekspresją, na którą składają się: wirtuozeria wokalna i instrumentalna, kunsztowna improwizacja (kontrapunkt) oraz przemyślane kreacje sceniczne. Założona i prowadzona przez Pedro Memelsdorffa, Mala Punica (łac. owoc granatu, symbol płodności) jest zespołem wokalno-instrumentalnym specjalizującym się w muzyce ars nova i ars subtilior – bogatym repertuarze polifonicznym, który rozprzestrzenił się w Europie pod koniec średniowiecza.
Przecierając nowe szlaki w muzyce, zespół zarejestrował 8 płyt i dał ponad 400 koncertów, które całkowicie zrewolucjonizowały repertuar, zmieniły przyjęte poglądy i ustanowiły współczesne standardy wykonawstwa muzyki średniowiecznej, a także przypomniały twórczość takich kompozytorów, jak Paolo da Firenze, Matteo da Perugia, Antonello i Filippotto da Caserta czy Antonio Zacara da Teramo. Mala Punica występowała w wielu renomowanych salach, na festiwalach muzyki dawnej i podczas cykli koncertów w Europie oraz obu Amerykach, m.in. w Konzerthausie i sali Musikverein w Wiedniu, Konzerthausie w Berlinie, Queen Elizabeth Hall w Southbank Centre w Londynie, Théâtre de la Ville i Cité de la Musique w Paryżu, Auditorium Parco della Musica w Rzymie, podczas Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, December Nights w Moskwie, Lucerne Festival oraz na festiwalach muzyki dawnej w Sankt Petersburgu, Yorku, Utrechcie, Bostonie, Meksyku, Bogocie, Antwerpii, Saintes i Nowym Jorku.
Zespół odbywał rezydencje artystyczne w siedzibie Fondation Royaumont w Paryżu, AMUZ w Antwerpii, University of California w Davis, podczas Festival di Milano Musica – György Ligeti / Teatro alla Scala w Mediolanie i w Harvard University w Cambridge, MA.
Nagrania zespołu Mala Punica (Arcana, Erato, Harmonia Mundi, Ambroisie) otrzymały ponad 40 międzynarodowych nagród, takich jak Diapason d’Or de l’année (kilkukrotnie), Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, Choc de Classica, Prix Joker i MIDEM Classical Award we Francji, Caecilia Award w Belgii, Płyta Roku magazynu „Studio” w Polsce, Edison Award w Holandii, Premio Internazionale del Disco Antonio Vivaldi we Włoszech. Artyści inspirują także kompozytorów współczesnych, takich jak Meksykanka Georgina Derbez i Argentyńczyk Pablo Ortiz, których utwory Non più infelice oraz Alius I-III wykonali po raz pierwszy w Kolonii i Bazylei w 2010 i 2014 r.

Mala Punica combines musicological research with bold musical expression: virtuoso solo singing and playing, rich contrapuntal impro-visation, and thorough stage presentation. Founded and directed by Pedro Memelsdorff, Mala Punica (Latin for pomegranates, symbol of fertility) is a vocal-instrumental ensemble devoted to the Ars nova and Ars subtilior – a luxuriant polyphonic repertoire that spread across Europe at the end of the Middle Ages. The ensemble’s path-breaking career includes eight recordings and over four-hundred concerts which have completely revolutionised the repertoire, changed accepted views and established new standards in the performance of medieval music, and revived neglected composers such as Paolo da Firenze, Matteo da Perugia, Antonello and Filippotto da Caserta or Antonio Zacara da Teramo.
Mala Punica has performed at many of the most renowned venues, early-music festivals, and during classical series throughout Europe and North and South America. This includes the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre in London, the Théâtre de la Ville and Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Festwochen der Alten Musik in Innsbruck, the December Nights in Moscow, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome,the Lucerne Festival and the Early Music Festivals of St Petersburg, York, Utrecht, Boston, Mexico City, Bogotá, Antwerp, Saintes, and New York. The ensemble has held artistic residencies at the Fondation Royaumont in Paris, the AMUZ in Antwerp, the University of California at Davis, the György Ligeti Milano Musica Festival / Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
