Matthias Lutze received his first musical training in the Dresdner Kreuzchor and Windsbacher Knabenchor, and went on to develop his craft at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Carl Maria Weber’ Dresden with Christiane Junghanns and Olaf Bär. He has also been considerably influenced by Charlotte Lehmann and Peter Kooij. Throughout his fifteen-year career as a soloist and ensemble singer, he has performed with leading ensembles such as the Collegium Vocale Gent, RIAS Kammerchor, Lautten Compagney Berlin, Cappella Amsterdam, Capella de la Torre, Il Gardellino Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Pygmalion, Cantus Thuringia, Vox Luminis, Sette Voci, and the BL!NDMAN collective. He is also a member of Ensemble Polyharmonique.
A frequent guest at major music festivals, he sings at the Handel Festival in Halle, the Festival de Saintes, Dresden Music Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Stuttgarter Musikfest, the Bach Festival Leipzig, the Heinrich Schütz Festival in Dresden, and many others. Matthias Lutze has also recorded highly acclaimed CD, TV and radio performances, and has sung with celebrated conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Hans- Christoph Rademann, Wolfgang Katschner, Daniel Reuss, Paul Dombrecht, Skip Sempé, James Wood, Marcus Creed, Iván Fischer, Raphaël Pichon, and Helmuth Rilling.
